English class cancelled

Last week was a great chance to get away and relax. The only thing that I wonder about is if this paper is going to be this hard than should we have had class? Now it seems like to me that this paper is right up on top of me and I have a long way to go. I understand that she said to do research the week that we were off but I did not really understand the paper to well. I think that it will be really hard to try and find 15 sources on my topic. Most of my sources are on the same point of view as me so they don't really help much. I also see that our rough draft is due on Friday and our final is due the following Monday. What happened to the two peer editing sessions? Also that does not give us the chance to have our teacher edit the paper. From what I understand this paper is going to be tough and I would like to know if I am on the right track or not. I just thought the final paper would not be due until the following Monday after thanksgiving break.

Tyler, your rough draft is not due until next Friday, not this Friday. Also, we have a peer editing session on that Friday. Yes, this is only one session instead of two, but then you have the weekend to work on improving your paper before it is due...which isn't for nearly 2 weeks.

In regards to finding sources, I'm more than willing to try to help if you're struggling. Just email me a time that you'e able to meet, and we can sit down at the computer to search for things together--or, we can re-examine your sides, to see if you need to modify your two sides.

Also, if there are things you're feeling you don't know yet, and want to learn in class to help you with this paper, please, please let me know. However, I'd like to point out that, regardless of whether we had class or not, the amount of time you have to write the paper hasn't changed. I hold conferences because paper 3 and 4 are tricky concepts to understand, and I find it best to discuss them one on one with students. However, the papers themselves are no different from research/position/thesis papers you've written in the past, unlike our first two papers which taught you brand new concepts or styles of writing. In papers 3 and 4, there are no tricks such as raising questions or using only personal experience.
I am confident that you'll be able to do this.

Please (!) make an appointment with me if you're feeling overwhelmed or unsure what to do!
